
The Australia Day ceremonial salute is the army's first public event for the year. It's particularly significant this year given it is the centenary of the WWI victory. The 3rd Light Battery has been doing the salute since 1948. They take four big howitzer guns up to Kings Park and fire 21 shots from midday. Pictured from left Gunner Robert Steadman,

The friends of Mason Hooton and Callum Mummery. The teenagers were killed when the car they were passengers in hit a tree on Secret Harbour Bvd in 2017. Their friends and family are angry the council has cut down the tree, which had become a shrine, without any consultation. Three West Australians are travelling to Rome to take part in medieval combat tournament Battle of the Nations. They wear genuine medieval armour and fight with real weapons - axes, swords, maces etc - that have blunted edges.

Pitisi Hatcher and Steven Schreuder met at Fringe Perth 2016 when they were working putting up the tents. Pitisi is also a circus performer and Steven makes dutch pancakes. They now travel the world with their show which is making pancakes on a tightrope. Need to get a picture of them on the tightrope. They are getting married laster this year. This is for a Valentines Day story, pictured in Perth.
